IPL scam: SC reveal names of Stuart Binny, Owais Shah and others, directs BCCI to hold back elections
New Delhi, Nov 14 (IBNS): Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President-in-exile Narayanswamy Srinivasan got a huge blow as the Supreme Court on Friday directed the board to hold back the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections due next week. It also disclosed some names including Indian all-rounder Stuart Binny in connection with IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal, media reported.
Moving ahead with the ongoing IPL probe, the Supreme Court on Friday revealed some names who were probed by Mudgal Committee.
According to reports, the names of Stuart Binny, West Indies legspinner Samuel Badree, former England cricketer Owais Shah, Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra and former IPL COO Sundar Raman among the 13 were disclosed by top court on Friday, who were the investigated by the court-appointed inquiry panel led by Justice (retd) Mukul Mudgal for corruption in IPL.
Stuart Binny is sure to receive a major setback after the Mudgal Report named him among the accused of IPL 2013 Spot Fixing.
Binny is one of the prominent players of IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals so far.
He excelled well in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka on Thursday at the Eden Gardens.
The court said, "We have seen the report and it did suggest some misdemeanour on part of certain individuals. Certain findings recorded by committee are understood to have indicted some individuals whose conduct has been investigated."
It has been learnt that the top court on Friday decided to make public the Mudgal committee report that investigated the allegations of spot fixing and betting in the 2013 edition of the IPL in respect of former BCCI president N. Srinivasan, his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and others.
SC has decided to probe the names of the non-sportsmen involved in the IPL 2014 Spot Fixing case first, as mentioned in the Mudgal Committee Report.
The top court was looking to work on the names of non-sportsmen involved in this alleged IPL Spot Fixing scam.
Supreme Court has also decided to not share the complete reports with the lawyers.
It also ordered against disclosure of names of the players who have been indicted in the Mudgal Committee report.
But, as media reports suggested, the names of Stuart Binny and Owais Shah accidentally came out.
BCCI on Friday came up with a request where it said that since elections are coming up and there is a AGM meet on November 20.
The court has however refused to grant the permission for the said AGM and elections.
"The BCCI elections which were to be held on November 20 have been put on hold," the court said.
The apex court also denied to give Srinivasan the permission to contest in elections.
BCCI has decided to postpone their elections to December or for the Next Year.
The panel had submitted its second and final report to the Supreme Court on November 3.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had revealed the names of BCCI president-in-exile N. Srinivasan and his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan when Justice Mudgal submitted his first report in February.
In the previous hearing that took place on Nov 10, the Supreme Court had asked for more time to read the report submitted by the Justice Mukul Mudgal-led committee which is probing the IPL spot-fixing case.
The panel, headed by former judge also included ex-India captain Sourav Ganguly.
The next hearing will take place on Nov 24.
