Lashkar behind the Amarnath Yatra attack: Kashmir police
Srinagar, July 11 (IBNS): Even as condemnation poured in from all quarters, Kashmir Police on Tuesday said the LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) was behind the terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Anantnag district on Monday evening killing seven yatris and leaving many injured.
Kashmir IG said the attack was carried out by the Lashkar. Pakistani terrorist Abu Ismail is said to be the main mastermind behind it.
LeT, however, denied attacking yatris blaming it on the Indian forces.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has called a meeting to review security situation in the region where the attack was carried out despite a security cover of about 40,000 troops.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said the attack is "an assault on our values and traditions".
According to media reports, there were intelligence reports of a possible attack on Amarnath Yatra.
The report said the terrorists were tasked to kill at least 150 pilgrims and about a hundred cops.
The terrorists opened fire on the bus of pilgrims around 8.20 PM. The bus, which was coming from Gujarat, was reportedly not part of the main yatra convoy.
As a result it was not registered with the shrine board, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) told media.
The CRPF covers the main yatra convoy otherwise.
