Last time together : Najeeb Jung and Arvind Kejriwal meet over breakfast
New Delhi,Dec 23 (IBNS) : Najeeb Jung, who resigned abruptly on Thursday as Delhi's Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his biggest critic, had a parting meeting over breakfast on Friday morning.
The outgoing Lt.Governor had invited Kejriwal for breakfast.
"He told me that he is resigning due to personal reasons," Kejriwal was quoted by NDTV as saying after the 40-minute meeting.
Asked whether Mr Jung's exit would simplify the road ahead for his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government, the Chief Minister said: "It depends on who comes next."
On Thursday, Kejriwal had twitted admitting his surprise over Jung's resignation with 18 months left in his tenure and said, "Khatta meetha toh chalta rehta hai zindagi mein (ups and downs are a part of life)."
Jung, 66, had said he wants to return to his "first love, academics".
All through his three years in office Jung had most bitter relationship with Kejriwal, often marked by acrimony, verbal war in public and even litigation over primacy in governance.
The Centre and Jung said because Delhi is not a state, the Lieutenant Governor has special powers.
The AAP called Jung a stooge of the BJP-led central Government, saying he was undermining the authority and scuttling the legitimate power of a state Government elected by the people.
Repeated clashes between the two sides occurred over appointment of bureaucrats and other important issues, which ultimately were taken to the Delhi High Court and even the Supreme Court.
The Delhi High Court ruled that the Lieutenant Governor is the administrative head of Delhi, while the Supreme Court observed that an elected Government should have some power to run, otherwise the Government can not function.
