LS debates over West Bengal gangrape
New Delhi, Mar 17 (IBNS): The Lok Sabha witnessed a heated debate as members raised the issue of gangrape of a nun in West Bengal while the Congress attacked the state government and demanded for the arrests of the culprits.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has raised the issue of gangrape of the nun in the House.
"Why no arrests made in the case so far?," Chowdhury said.
"Playing blame games over issues like the one in Hisar or in West Bengal is not the solution to the problem... These are the incidents which should be condemned. We cannot blame the government. Moreover, it is not the Centre's responsibility to interfere in law and order matters of a state," Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said in the house.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his 'deep concern' over the recent vandalization of a church in Haryana and the gangrape of a nun in West Bengal.
The Prime Minister's Office has also sought for immediate report on the incidents.
"PM is deeply concerned about the incidents in Hisar, Haryana and Nadia, West Bengal," PMO India tweeted on Tuesday.
"PMO has asked for immediate report on facts & action taken regarding the incidents in Haryana & West Bengal," the Prime Minister's Office said in another tweet.
Early Saturday. suspected robbers barged in at the missionary-run school Nadia's Ranaghat, located over 75km from Kolkata, took away Rs. 12 lakh and other valuables and gangraped the 72-year-old Mother Superior of the convent.
