Mainpuri : Two labourers beaten to death by police for not paying bribe
Lucknow, Aug 6 (IBNS) : Close on the heels of the Kanpur custody death, two labourers were allegedly beaten to death by policemen in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri for refusing to pay a bribe of Rs. 100 , reports said.
The incident took place at a check post on Friday. Four policemen and two home guards have been suspended.
According to reports, Pankaj Yadav and Dileep Yadav, both in their early twenties, were travelling in a truck carrying bricks, when they were stopped.
The police sought a bribe of Rs 100, which they refused to pay. Dileep and Pankaj attempted to flee the spot but were caught by the cops. They were then badly thrashed.
Local residents found their body floating in a nearby pond. Police claimed that the duo died due to drowning, but local people alleged that they were beaten to death.
An autopsy reports also reportedly confirmed that the two men died because of assault, and not of drowning.
