Modi's campaign makes more than one million people to give up LPG subsidy
New Delhi, Jul 24 (IBNS) Motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Give it up" campaign more than a million Indians have given up their LPG subsidy in just three months, reports said.
According to the government, more than 20,000 people are giving up their subsidy daily, and the money being saved is estimated to be Rs 140 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been urging citizens who can afford to do, to give up their subsidy so that the rich and the solvent no longer remain beneficiaries and the amount of money being spent on the count comes down.
There are as many as 14.54 crore active LPG consumers in India, of which at least one crore consumers are eligible to surrender their subsidy, the government says.
As on July 22, around 12.6 lakh Indians have given up their subsidy.
