More rains predicted in Mumbai, people asked to stay indoors
Mumbai, June 20 (IBNS) The people of Mumbai have been asked to stay indoors on Saturday as more rains are on cards for the city which is yet to recover from Friday's crippling downpour, though train services have resumed.
"We have advised people not to go out and remain indoors on Saturday," advised Mumbai's civic body chief Ajoy Mehta.
Yesterday, a downpour of over 500 mm in 24 hours submerged vast areas of the city crippling train services, mumbai's life line and severely disrupting road traffic.
All schools were ordered to close by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city's civic agency, while tens of thousands of commuters remained stranded on roads and in railway stations.
As the met department warned of heavy rain for most of Saturday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) urged citizens to stay away from beaches and avoid going too close to the Marine Drive sea wall.
However, reports said there's no waterlogging on tracks on Saturday morning and Western Railways' suburban and long distance trains are running normally.
The Central Railways says the water has receded and suburban services on mainline, harbor and trans harbor lines are running fine.
