Onset of monsoon in Kerala likely in next 48 hours
New Delhi, June 4 (IBNS) As the scorching sun wreaks havoc across a vast swathe of India the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that monsoon will hit Kerala within the next 48 hours.
The Met Department had earlier said that the southwest monsoon would set over Kerala on May 30, plus or minus four days. The Southwest Monsoon had advanced over the Bay of Bengal by May 21.
However, its progress has been slowed down because of anti-cyclone in the Arabian Sea.
Reports quoted IMD as reporting that thunderstorms have been observed in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat , Chhattisgarh, Assam, Karnataka, Odisha and Meghalaya.
The tremendous hit wave tormenting a major part of the country has already left about 1900 people dead, most of them in Telengana and Andhra Pradesh.
