Pak to appeal against bail to LeT commander Lakhvi
Islamabad, Dec 19 (IBNS): The Pakistan government said it would appeal against the bail granted to top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, 54, media reports said.
Lakhvi was the key accused of plotting the 26/11 terror attack on Mumbai in 2008. The Pakistan government believes it has a strong case against Lakhvi.
Prosecutor of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency Azhar Chaudhry told NDTV: “Once we get the order we will appeal against bail plea and demand a stay order.”
The LeT commander was granted bail on Thursday by an anti-terror court in Islamabad. The court granted bail to Lakhvi saying that the prosecution had been unable to provide evidence against him.
India’s ministry of external affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said: “It will serve as a reassurance to terrorists who indulge in heinous crimes. Let us not forget that the financing of the attack was done in Pakistan.
India repeatedly urged Pakistan to rein in terrorist modules operating on its soil.
