PDP remains cagey on alliance, meets Governor
Jammu, Dec 31 (IBNS) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said they want the Vajpayee line to be followed in governing Kashmir, ahead of meeting the Governor on government formation.
Mufti, whose party won the highest number of 28 seats in the 87-member assembly, met Governor N N Vohra on Wednesday over the issue of government formation in the valley
but did not specify if she would go in alliance with the BJP, which won the second highest number of seats at 25.
She said PDP will not cobble numbers, like reported in media of 55 MLAs, just to govern. She said the Narendra Modi government has big responsibility towards Kashmir like the PM mentioned earlier and should follow the line of Vajpayee bringing back his policies.
The Governor invited both the PDP president and BJP state unit president Jugal Kishore Sharma for talks over government formation on Wednesday.
"It is great opportunity. If the leadership of country uses it, Jammu and Kashmir will be a showcase window for the whole world. Our leadership should rise to the occasion and hounur this mandate," she said.
"One should respect the mandate," said Mufti adding that the agenda of PDP is reconciliation in in Kashmir.
She said the Narendra Modi government at the centre should follow the Vajpayee line of reconciliation.
Her father and party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed also continued consultations within the party on the government formation.
PDP and BJP are followed by National Conference at 15 and Congress with 12. Smaller parties and independents won seven seats.
