Supreme Court serves notice to CBI, ED over Manish Sisodia's bail plea
New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Tuesday served notices to two central probe agencies over the bail plea filed by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the alleged excise policy scam, media reports said.
A top court bench comprising Justices B R Gavai, Sanjay Karol and K V Viswanathan has issued the notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) that have registered cases against the top Delhi politician.
Cases have been registered against Sisodia, a close confidante of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The top court had denied Sisodia, an Aam Aadmi Party leader, bail on October 10, 2023.
Sisodia's lawyer Vivek Jain appealed to the court for his client's bail citing there has been no progression in trial since his bail was rejected in October last year.
The former Deputy Chief Minister is in jail for 16 months.
Sisodia was first arrested by the CBI on February 26 and on March 9 by the ED last year.
Kejriwal is already in Tihar Jail in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam.
Though he has been granted an interim bail by the Supreme Court in the case filed by the ED, the AAP supremo is still in jail under the custody of CBI, which had also arrested the Chief Minister linked to the alleged scam.
