Sushma Swaraj makes last efforts to save Indian from execution in Indonesia
New Delhi, July 28 (IBNS) : India is making last-minute efforts to save the life of Gurdip Singh, an Indian who faces execution in Indonesia on Thursday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has said.
Singh, 48, has been on death row since he was convicted for smuggling drugs in Indonesia in 2004.
“Gurdip Singh is facing death sentence in a drug case in Indonesia.”
“We are making last minute efforts to save him from execution on July 28,” Swaraj said in a series of tweets on Wednesday.
Singh, who hails from Jalandhar in Punjab, is among 14 people who are facing execution after the authorities decided to resume implementing death penalties. The decision was criticised by human rights organisations.
