Tarun Vijay's comment on South Indians continues to rock Lok Sabha
New Delhi, Apr 10 (IBNS) : The Lok Sabha on Monday witnessed an uproarious scene leading to brief adjournment of the House as BJP MP Tarun Vijay's certain remarks on the skin colour of south Indians continued to draw angry protests from the opposition.
According to reports, the fracas started as soon as the House assembled and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge wanted a discussion on Vijay's remarks.
He was joined by various opposition MPs.
Though Speaker Sumitra Mahajan told the House that the issue would be taken up during Zero Hour, the opposition members raised slogans demanding an immediate discussion.
Khagre said, "This is a secular country, but some parties with such ideologies are indulging in these acts. It is dangerous for India's Integrity."
As a heated exchange between the members of BJP and opposition parties started, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that India is a secular country and there can't be any discrimination on caste, creed, race basis.
Singh, however, said, "The person about whom Mr. Kharge said, that person said the statement he gave was indefensible and he has tendered an apology."
" When he has tendered an apology, it should be considered," Singh added.
In an interview given to a television channel, Vijay had claimed that the attacks on African students in Noida were not racist. But controversy arose when he referred to south Indians as "black", saying , "if we were racist could we have stayed together with the south Indians?"
"You know the Tamils, you know Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra — why do we live with them? We have blacks, black people around us. You are denying your own nation, denying your ancestry, your history and you're denying your culture," Vijay had said.
