Tunisia: UN condemns deadly attack on bus carrying presidential gaurd
New York, Nov 25 (Just Earth News/IBNS): Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the United Nations Security Council this evening condemned the attack on Tuesday in Tunis against a bus carrying Presidential Guards, which resulted in many deaths and injuries.
“The Secretary-General reiterates that the United Nations will continue to stand with the people of Tunisia as they confront the scourge of terrorism and continue to consolidate and strengthen their democracy,” said a statement issued by his spokesperson, in which the UN chief also offered his condolences to the families of the victims and the people and Government of Tunisia.
In a separate statement, the UN Security Council also strongly condemned what it referred to as a "terrorist attack" against the Tunisian Presidential Guard bus, and which it said had left at least 12 people dead.
The members of the Council expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims of this heinous act and to the Government of Tunisia.
The Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism to justice, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Tunisian authorities in this regard.
Stressing that “no terrorist attack can reverse the path of Tunisia towards democracy and its efforts towards economic recovery and development,” the Security Council reaffirmed the need to combat by all means, in accordance with the UN Charter, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
