US-Canadian couple appear in Taliban video, pleads govt to change policy
Kabul, Aug 31 (IBNS): A Canadian man and his American wife, who were captured by the Taliban in 2012 in Afghanistan following their visit to the nation, purportedly appeared in a video uploaded by the fringe unit, US watchdog SITE reported.
Rita Katz, Director of SITE Intelligence group tweeted, "Vid appears to show #Canadian Joshua Boyle & #American Caitlan Coleman--kidnapped in #Afghan by #Taliban in 2012."
"Prisoners plea to Afghan government: "our captors are frightened" of further executions of fighters, are "willing to kill us" for revenge," a second tweet from Katz read.
The video shows the couple pleading the Afghan government to change their policy of executing Taliban prisoners, saying that any further execution will cost the couple their lives.
Joshua Boyle and Caitlyn Coleman, the man and his wife from Canada and the US respectively also urged their respective country's government to pressurise Afghanistan to stop the executions of the captured extremists.
