Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi resigns
New Delhi, June 17 (IBNS) Uttar Pradesh Governor Banwari Lal Joshi on Tuesday resigned from his post.
He sent his resignation letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday said that Governors, who were appointed by the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, should resign.
"The Governors should resign themselves. They were appointed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and not based on merit," said Swamy.
This came after reports on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government might change Governors in five states.
Pertinently, the Governors in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal were appointed by the previous UPA government.
Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit is presently the Governor of Kerala , BL Joshi of Uttar Pradesh, Ram Naresh Yadav of Madhya Pradesh, MK Narayanan of West Bengal and Shivraj Patil of Punjab.
According to reports, the new appointments will be made from among Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Murli ManoharJoshi, Lalji Tandon, Kesri Nath Tripathi, VK Malhotra, Kalyan Singh, Shanta Kumar and BC Khanduri
