Badaun gangrape-murder: Fifth accused arrested
Lucknow, May 31 (IBNS) The Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday said they have arrested the fifth accused in the Badaun gangrape and murder case, while two others are still absconding.
So far, of the seven accused, policeman Sarvesh Yadav, his brothers Pappu, Awadhesh, Urvesh and policeman Chhatrapal Yadav have been arrested.
Meanwhile, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will visit Badaun lateron Saturday and meet the girls' parents.
Two Dalit minor sisters were allegedly gangraped and then hanged from a tree at Katra village in Badaun on Wednesday.
The cousin sisters, aged 14 and 15 respectively, were reportedly missing since Tuesday night.
The victims' family alleged that the police refused to register a a First Information Report (FIR) into the incident.
Later, coming under pressure from angry locals who took to the streets demanding action against the culprits, the police registered an FIR against seven people, including two constables of Ushait police station.
Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said that the Badaun rape case will be sent to a fast track court.
Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the gangrape and murder of two Dalit sisters in Badaun district.
"There should a CBI probe into this shocking incident as the Akhilesh Yadav government is not at all serious about it," said Mayawati.
