Do not politicise farmer suicide: Naidu in Parliament
New Delhi, Apr 23 (IBNS): As the Parliament was rocked over the suicide of a farmer at the rally of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) a day ago, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu urged Opposition not to politicise the issue and assured statement by Union Home Minister on the matter.
"Farmer's death at rally should not be politicized. It is a serious issue," he told the Parliament after Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said how everyone was mute spectator as the incident happened.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will make a statement in the House around noon over the issue.
Congress demanded suspension of Question House but Speaker Sumitra Mahajan ruled it out and said discussion on the farmer suicide issue will be held at 12 noon.
While the Delhi Police Crime Branch is probing the suicide of a farmer at an Aam Aadmi Party rally in the heart of the capital a day ago, the police submitted an initial report to the Ministry to Home on Thursday.
"We have given a report to Home Ministry," said Delhi Police chief BS Bassi.
"The matter is under investigation. I do not want to comment on allegations now," said Bassi when asked to comment on the AAP charge that police remained mute spectator as the man committed suicide.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will shortly make statements in both Houses of Parliament over the issue.
The man- 40-year-old Gajendra Singh from Rajasthan's Dausa- hanged himself from a tree on Wednesday afternoon as hundreds watched in horror but without acting at the AAP rally. AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was present there as well. He later slammed the police for inaction even as the heat is on AAP for continuing with the rally despite the tragedy.
Police said a case against unnamed persons have been registered for abetment, and death due to negligence, said reports.
Reports said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh met the Delhi Police chief BS Bassi and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung over the issue.

The body of Gajender Singh has been taken to Dausa district to his family.
According to an NDTV report, before committing suicide, he had flung something like a purported suicide note at the crowd, in which he had written: "I am a farmer's son. My father drove me out of the house because my crop failed. I have three children. I am from Rajasthan. Please tell me, how do I go home? Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan."
