Panaji, Jul 12 (IBNS): Acting on a tip-off, a team of Goa woman police raided a house and rescued a woman from one of its room, who had been locked up there for the last two decades, reports said.

PTI news agency quoted police officer as saying that the woman was naked and was reluctant to move out of the room, when they found her.

The incident took place in Candolim village, famous for its beach resorts.

The woman received food and water from her two brothers through a window, which was also her only medium to interact with the world outside.

Preliminary investigation has suggested that her family locked her up in the room some 20 years ago after she returned from Mumbai and displayed an abnormal behaviour.

It further added that the behaviour changed due to a shock she endured while finding out that the man she had married was already in a relationship and had a wife.

The raid was carried out following a tip off from 'Bailancho Saad', an NGO that works for women's rights.

The news agency reported that no one has been arrested so far as the investigation is still in its primary stage.
