Govt. report on Northeast people problem made public

New Delhi, Jan 2 (IBNS) The government has come out with a committee report on the problems of the people of Northeast living across India in various metropolitan cities with recommendations to better their lot and protect them from any bias or violence.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has put out the Report of the Committee under the Chairmanship of M. P. BezBarua which was set up to look into the various concerns of the people hailing from the  North Eastern States who are living in different and other parts of the country especially the metropolitan cities.  

The Committee was set up by the Government in the light of the unfortunate death of  Nido Tania, a student from Arunachal Pradesh.  

Report of the committee is available on www.mha.nic.in. The committee has classified its recommendations into (i) Immediate measures be implemented within six months to one year; (ii) short term measures to be implemented within one to one-half year and Long term measures to be implemented in one and half to three years. 
 
 The Bezbaruah Committee, headed by M.P. Bezbaruah, Member, North Eastern Council, was set up in Feb 2014 after the death of Nido Tania, a 19-year-old student from Arunachal Pradesh,  in Delhi on January 29, 2014 after he was subject to violence by some local people.

 
The Committee's mandate was to listen to the issues raised by people from Northeast India living in other areas of the country, especially metro cities. The committee was also asked to suggest measures which could be implemented by the government of India.
