
Govt to hike import duty on sugar: Paswan
New Delhi, June 23 (IBNS) Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Monday said the Centre will hike import duty on sugar by 40 percent.
"The government will increase the import duty on sugar to 40 percent from the current 15 percent. The government will extendsugar export subsidy of Rs 3,300 per tonne till September this year," said Paswan.
With not even a month in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government on Friday increased railway fares with the the passenger fare being hiked by 14.2 percent.
The freight rates have been hiked by 6.5 percent.
New fares will be effective from June 25.
This is the first steep hike in Railway fares in many years.
