Meeting at PM Modis residence today to select next CBI chief
New Delhi, Dec 2 (IBNS): A high-level meeting will be held at Prime Minister Narendra Modis residence on Tuesday between the government, the Opposition and the Chief Justice of India for the selection of a new director of the countrys federal investigation agency - Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
A Collegium comprising the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India HL Dattu and the leader of the largest Opposition party in Parliament which is Congress will meet for the first time ever for bipartisan selection of the next CBI chief, media reports said.
Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to represent the Opposition in the meeting.
CBI director Ranjit Sinha, who was recently removed by the Supreme Court from the investigation of the 2G spectrum scam, retires on Tuesday.
This will be the collegium's first such selection meeting after the new anti-corruption Lokpal law was enacted in December, sources said.
