National Herald: Gandhis may not seek bail
New Delhi, Dec 17 (IBNS) Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi may not seek bail in the National Herald case, though the party have remained tight lipped about it, media reports said.
Senior Congress leader and an advocate, Abhishek Singhvi was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, "We cannot share our strategy. I cannot speak on it."
The daily also reported that several senior Congress leaders are expected to accompany Sonia and Rahul to the court, after they were summoned by a Delhi court pertaining to the National Herald case.
The court had asked the duo to appear before it on Aug 7 for allegedly misappropriating funds worth Rs.2000 crore of The National Herald newspaper. The court also summoned Congress leaders Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandez, journalist Suman Dubey and technocrat Sam Pitroda in the case.
Earlier Sonia Gandhi had said that she is the daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi, ex-Indian Prime Minister and that she is not worried about anything.
Rahul Gandhi had termed it as a 'politically motivated investigation, a vendetta from the PMO'.
Rahul also stated that he puts his faith in the judicial system of the country.
The National Herald newspaper was established in Lucknow on September 9, 1938 by first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru. The paper finally ceased operations in 2008.
