NEOPWA donates 10L to support cancer patients of north east
Kolkata Feb 1 (IBNS): North East Officer's and Professionals Welfare Association ( NEOPWA) on Saturday donated Rs 10,00000 to Tata Medical Center Trust for diagnosis of the underprivileged cancer patients of north eastern states of India.
Santoor maestro Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya and entertainment entrepreneur, actor Arijit Dutta were present to grace the occasion.
“This year we the members of NEOPWA are working for a cause. The treatment for cancer in north eastern region of our country is not so developed, so we are donating a small token amount to the Tata Medical Center to do something for the improvement of cancer treatment in north east,” said C L Denjongpa, President, NEOPWA.
Tata Medical Center(TMC), a 350 crore not for profit, cancer speciality hospital plans to setup satellite centers in the north east to provide quality treatment to cancer patients at nominal rates by 2017.
“As we know that treatment of a disease like cancer is very expensive, we at TMC aim to provide quality treatment at nominal rates. In the past we have received donations worth 150cr from the government, PSUs’ and the people of east and indeed now with the north east our hands will be strengthened. We would like to thank the people for coming together and for doing what you did,” said Geetha Radhakrishnan, Director Donor Relations, Tata Medical Center
“Almost 30 per cent patients in TMC Kolkata are from the north east. There are very few hospitals in the region who can provide quality treatment to the patients suffering from a disease like cancer, with this amount we look forward to extend our services to the peoples of that region. Initially we plan to develop satellite centers in the region by 2017,” she added.
