Pakistani boat intercepted off Gujarat coast
New Delhi, Apr 21 (IBNS): In a joint operation, the Indian Navy and Coast Guard have intercepted a Pakistani boat off Porbandar court in Gujarat on Monday, officials said.
An official said that 232 packets of narcotics have been recovered from the boat.
"#CoastalSecurity In a coordinated op, IN & ICG apprehend a boat carrying large quantity of narcotics in int waters off Gujarat coast.The op also resulted in the apprehension of 8 Pakistani nationals manning the boat," Sitanshu Kar, Principal Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, tweeted.
"The Op was launched on 18 Apr 15, based on intelligence inputs. IN Ships- Nirghat, Kondul and ICGS Sangram were deployed.The search was augmented by aerial support undertaken by Dorniers, IL38 and P8I," he said.
He said the 'suspected boat' was was intercepted by ICGS Sangram in the wee hours of Monday.
"232 packets of narcotics, suspected to be heroin and worth up to Rs 600 crore in the international market, recovered," he said.
Kar said:"Apprehended boat is being brought to Porbandar for further investigation."
