PM seeks report on nun gangrape, church attack

New Delhi, Mar 17 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his 'deep concern' over the recent vandalization of a church in Haryana and the gangrape of a nun in West Bengal.

The Prime Minister's Office has also sought for immediate  report on the incidents.

"PM is deeply concerned about the incidents in Hisar, Haryana and Nadia, West Bengal," PMO India tweeted on Tuesday.

"PMO has asked for immediate report on facts & action taken regarding the incidents in Haryana & West Bengal," the Prime Minister's Office said in another tweet.

Several thousand protesters marched in the city on Monday in solidarity with the brutalised nun of a Ranaghat convent in West Bengal while police arrested altogether 10 persons in connection with the incident that sent shockwave across the country.

Organised by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Calcutta, the rally was held at the city's Allen Park to condemn the incident and express anguish of the people.

Besides members from most of the city parishes, a sizeable section of youngsters took part in the protest march.

Early Saturday. suspected robbers barged in at the missionary-run school Nadia's Ranaghat, located over 75km from Kolkata, took away Rs. 12 lakh and other valuables and gangraped the 72-year-old Mother Superior of the convent.

 Superintendent of Police Arnab Ghosh said with the detention of two persons on Monday, the number of those held in connection with the incident rose to 10.

In another incident in Haryana, an under-construction church was vandalized in Kaimri village.
