Prakash Javadekar launches 5000 libraries under Tech programme of RILM
Kolkata, Sept 8 (IBNS): On the occasion of 50th International Literacy Day, Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) is launching creation of 5000 libraries in Government and Government aided schools across India, under its mission Total Literacy and Quality Education.
After eradication of polio, more than 1.75 lac Rotary and Inner Wheel members in India have united for the above mentioned mission as RILM under the aegis of Rotary South Asia Society for Development and Cooperation, and adopted TEACH approach, where:
T – Teacher Support – To train and retrain teachers
E – E-Learning – To install E-Learning facility in schools
A – Adult Literacy – To educate adults non-literates
C – Child Development – To mainstream out of school and drop out children
H – Happy School – To upgrade infrastructure of a school
Altogether becomes holistic approach to achieve the goal. The entire programme focuses on Government / Government aided schools.
All over India, RILM is doing various activities to mark the International Literacy Day with an objective to create awareness among the masses on the ‘Importance of being literate’. At a national level, RILM has decided to launch creation of 5000 libraries in Government or Government aided schools and thus requested Minister of HRD Prakash Javadekar ji to grace the occasion by doing a symbolic launch on the occasion of 50th International Day by handing over one library to a representative of the school.
During the year, RILM is also targeting to train 5000 teachers, establish 10,000 E-learning facility, send 1 lac out of school or drop out children back to school, make 2 lac adults literate, convert 1000 schools into happy schools and provide skill development training to 10,000 adults.
The programme would be attended by Chairman, RILM Shekhar Mehta, Pramod Jejuvikar (Past District Governor), Chief Operating Officer, RILM Dr. Aapga Singh, other senior Rotary leaders and school representatives.
