School kid's molestation triggers mob violence in Bengaluru
Bengaluru , Jan 7 (IBNS) Pandemonium broke out in a Bengaluru school on Wednesday as irate parents and local residents clashed with the police, burned the institution's property and vehicles and beat up a teacher, accused of molesting an 8-year old girl.
The police lobbed tear gas canisters and lathicharged the violent crowd to bring the situation under control while few of the law keepers were injured in the incident.
The physical education instructor of the private school was arrested by police.
The incident occurred when police arrived at the school to take the man for questioning only to be accosted by the local residents, who wanted to get hold of the accused to bash him up.
When policemen tried their way to escort the man to the van, the mob hurled stones and bottles and set vehicles on fire. Going on a rampage, the crowd also damaged school property.
The violence prompted the police to lathicharge and teargas the mob.
Police Commissioner M N Reddi rushed to the spot. He said there should be no "instant justice", and that the "courts would decide on the punishment for the accused".
An investigation into the incident is going on.
