'Should have taken precautionary measures...': BJP's Dilip Ghosh after 3 killed at Suvendu's event in Bengal
Kolkata : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national vice president Dilip Ghosh on Thursday said precautionary measures should have been taken without depending solely on police after three people were killed at an event organised by West Bengal Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari in Asansol a day ago.
"Precautionary measures should have been taken by the organisers. We can't solely depend on the police for that," said Ghosh, a former state BJP president.
"Now the culture of West Bengal is such that people rush for things offered for free. So these things occur in such events. We have also witnessed similar scenarios during the distribution of Lakshmir Bhandar," the outspoken saffron leader added.
Apart from three killed, eight others were injured at the event.
The report quoting the Commissioner of Police of Asansol-Durgapur Commissionerate Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam said among the dead was a minor girl.
The blanket distribution was organized by the BJP at Ward No 27 ( Rail Para) where BJP's Nandigram MLA Suvendu Adhikari was present.
Adhikari left the area after distributing a blanket to a beneficiary.
Earlier this week, Adhikari had taken an indirect jibe at Ghosh from a rally in south Kolkata.
Addressing the rally at Hazra, Adhikari said, "I am Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition. I don't believe in gimmicks. I don't give press bytes on my morning walks."
"Let me say this loud and clear that West Bengal's biggest dacoit will be behind the bars."
Ghosh is known for his statements on political scenarios during his morning walks in New Town, Kolkata.
