Swine Flu: Health minister chairs high-level meeting

New Delhi, Feb 18 (IBNS): Amid reports of more swine flu deaths pouring in from different parts of the country, Union Health Minister JP Nadda chaired a high-level review meeting on Tuesday night to take stock of the situation, media reports said.

The officials assessed reports from states and measures to deal with the infectious disease during the meeting

 

Sources said that over 100 deaths due to swine flu virus were reported in just last three days.

 

Official figures suggested that as many as 631 people so far died due to the disease this year. The total number of people affected by this H1N1 virus stood at 9,311 this year so far.

 

According to reports, Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) wrote to over 10,000 chemists across the country to stock Oseltamivir drug but not sell it without prescription. It also asked chemists to stock Tamiflu drug but not sell it without prescription.

 

The toll in Rajasthan and Gujarat stood at 183 and 150 respectively on February 16. At least 81 people died in Madhya Pradesh.
