US watching developments on Lakhvi's release
Washington, Mar 14(IBNS) The United States has said it is closely watching developments in Pakistan related to the release of 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.
Reports said a state department spokesman said on Saturday that US hoped Pakistan would keep its commitment to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai terrorist attacks to justice.
"The government of Pakistan has pledged its cooperation in bringing the perpetrators - financiers, and sponsors of the Mumbai terrorist attacks to justice and we urge Pakistan to follow through on that commitment," he said.
India on Friday summoned Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit after Islamabad High Court ordered the release of Lakhvi.
India lodged a strong protest with the Pakistan government and said it was "extremely upset" over the verdict.
India said it was Pakistan's responsibility to take all legal measures to ensure that Lakhvi doesn't come out of jail.
India has been seeking Lakhvi since the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai that left 166 people killed and over 300 injured.
