Uttarakhand row : Seriously considering suggestion of floor test, Centre tells Supreme Court
New Delhi, May 4 (IBNS) The Centre on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that it is "seriously considering" the suggestion of floor test in the Uttarakhand Assembly and will inform its decision by Friday, reports said.
The apex court on Tuesday had suggested to the Centre that Harish Rawat, the displaced Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, should be allowed to take a trust vote.
Rawat and his party, the Congress, have gone to court challenging the removal of the government in Uttarakhand. The High Court had ruled in their favour last month, prompting the Centre to move the apex court.
Rawat's government was removed on the ground of a constitutional crisis in the state. The development took place just a day before he was to take a trust vote to determine whether he has a majority in the house. The BJP claimed that nine Congress legislators had voted against Rawat when he presented the budget for the state, and so, it was wrongly declared as passed.
The Uttarakhand High Court held that the Centre had acted in an unjustifiable hurry to remove Rawat and ordered withdrawal of President's rule. But barely after 24 hours, the top court put a stay on it, saying that till it comes to a decision, the Centre must ensure that Uttarakhand remains under President's Rule.
