6.2 earthquake hits Italy
Rome, Aug 24 (IBNS): An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter Scale hit central Italy on Wednesday.
As per the USGS website, the epicentre of the quake was located
South-East of Norcia at latitude 42.714 degrees north and longitude 13.172 degrees east.
The quake was felt at 1:36 UTC.
The quake hit at a depth of 10km (six miles), USGS website said.
According to The Local, buildings have collapsed in Accumoli and Amatrice, towns in the Lazio province of Rieti.
People are reportedly trapped under the debris.
"My bed started to shake and the door was shaking, it was very scary," Angela Giuffrida, the editor of The Local Italy was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
The exact number of casualty is still not known.
