Army jawan killed in J&K encounter
Srinagar, Oct 13 (IBNS): An army jawan was killed and another injured in a counter-insurgency operation with suspected terrorists on Monday morning in Jammu and Kashmirs Kupwara district, media reported.
According to reports received, an Army jawan of 30 Rashtriya Rifles was killed in an encounter with militants in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Army sources said, based on intelligence tips, security forces launched a search operation in the forests of Petha village in Handwara area of Kupwara district North Kashmir.
It has been learnt, when army approached to the site hiding militants opened indiscriminate on army party leaves one army personnel dead on spot while others received minor injuries.
Soon after more reinforcement was sent to the place.
Army sources confirmed the deceased jawan as Sahib Singh. Another jawan is critically injured. He has been shifted to hospital.
An Army spokesperson said, "The operation is still in progress and further details are awaited.
The incident comes within a couple of days after tension along the 200-km stretch of International border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan somewhat eased after nine days of severe firing and shelling between the two armies that left 9 civilians dead and over 60 injured in Jammu & Kashmir.

On that context, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has quipped that Pakistan’s violation of ceasefire along the border was a cover-up to let the insurgents slip into India.
He also said that about 700 terrorists are waiting just outside the LoC waiting to infiltrate into India.
