BSF DG dismisses CRPF claim, says his soldier killed Udhampur terrorist
New Delhi, Aug 6 (IBNS) Amid the ongoing claims and counter claims over who killed one of the terrorists in the Udhampur attack, Border Security Force (BSF) Director General DK Pathak on Thursday asserted that it was his soldier Rocky who neutralised the attacker.
"There is no confusion on who killed the terrorist. BSF man neutralized the terrorist. Rocky fired heavily. He positioned himself in such a way that the terrorist was shot," reports quoted him as saying.
The CRPF had also claimed to have shot down the terrorist, one of the two gunmen who had attacked a BSF convoy on a Jammu highway in Udhampur district on Wednesday.
Two BSF constables-Subhendu Rai and Rocky- lost their lives but managed to prevent the terrorists from inflicting a bigger damage on the BSF party, comprising 44 personnel.
Briefing about the operation, the DG of the BSF said, "We have our regular convoy which travel between Jammu-Srinagar. This convoy started from Jammu, after crossing from Jammu. Two vehicles overtook and suddenly one terrorist came right in front of the road. The driver was the first who was targeted. We had 1 armed person in the bus."
Commending Rocky's brave act, the Pathak said had he not been fired at the terrorist, there would have been many casualties. "Had the terrorists entered the bus, there would have been many casualties. There were 44 people travelling in the bus. The other terrorist who was on high altitude was continuously firing," he said.
The terrorist who survived Rocky's bullets was later captured alive by BSF men with the help of local villagers. He was identified as Usman Khan alias Mohammad Naved, said to be a resident of Faisalabad in Pakistan
According to reports, the the operation was conducted jointly by the two forces. The first retaliatory fire was opened by a BSF guard onboard bus and later, CRPF troops located nearby joined them.
