Congress praises Modi speech, but questions delivery
New Delhi, Aug 15 (IBNS) Opposition Congress has hailed the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the ramparts of Red Fort on the Independence Day but also sharpened their attack saying his good words are not followed by his colleagues and it remains to be seen how he delivers.
"PMs words inclusive, harmonious, carrying alltogether, non vendetta. Bt [But] 60 days exp [experience] & many actions/ words of his govt/ party belie hs [his] words," tweeted Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi.
"adityanaths, balyans, bhagwats, goa minister, Bihar MP all do yeoman DISSERVICE to very inclusive, harmonious & positive sentiments of PM," he said, referring to BJP leaders who according to Congress were not in sync with the spirit of PM's I-Day speech.
"I only wish PM's excellent sentiments--inclusion, harmony, carrying parties & MPs together, no using brute majority- r folld [foiled] by BJP hotheads," he said adding that no one can object to the PM's speech per se.
"Only challenge is to bridge hiatus between words & deeds. Maybe 60 days too short... V [we] can wait," he said.
He admitted the extempore speech of the PM does create a special connect and "his oratory undeniable."
"Sincerity of words wl [will] be judged by translation into deeds by govt," he said.
Singhvi said the PM stuck right note on girl child, manufacturing, digital India and poverty.
"No ques [question] of criticising PM speech per se since normatively all he said is of national interest.. Question only about delivery by his govt," said Singhvi.
"Personally I was happy to see a very jodhpur like saafa worn by PM tho I know it is Gujarati style in Tiranga colors..I belong to jodhpur!" tweeted Singhvi on the style of the PM.
In a departure from the past, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first Independence Day speech on Friday spoke extempore and dwelt on building a strong India industrially by welcoming the world to make products here while giving a clarion call to make a Clean India with toilets in villages and schools.
Speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 68th Independence Day, he also announced to do away with the Planning Commission and replace it with a new institution.
Modi focused on job creation by harping on building a strong manufacturing base in India.
"Our dream should be that all over the world we can say-Made in India. I tell the world- Come, Make In India. Sell anywhere but manufacture here. We have the skill and talent," said Modi.
"Let us think about 0 defect- that our products are not defected and 0 effect- our products have no adverse effect on the environment," said the PM.
He said from automobile to chemical and electronics and plastics to submarine to satellite, all should be manufactured here.
"Let us come together and think of ways India does not have to import but we export to the world," he said, adding that "we need to give impetus to manufacturing sector."
"The world has changed. We can't think about our development journey isolated from the world," said Modi:
The PM said Planning Commission will be done away with.
The PM spoke about a Clean India.
"I announce an initiative- Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. If we have to build the nation we have to start from the villages. I come from a poor family and I want the poor to get dignity. We want to start a movement for a Clean India," said Modi.
"You would think that from Red Fort he is talking about cleanliness and toilets but I am speaking from the heart. Let us pledge that I will not make my surroundings dirty," he said.
The PM said the news of rapes from India are news of shame and asked why the parents never asked what their sons are doing as they grow up and put all restrictions on the girls.
"The parents should start asking the boys what they are doing and where they are going. After all the rapist is also someone's son," he said.
