Dawood in Pakistan, no stone to be unturned to bring him back : Rajnath
New Delhi, May 11 (IBNS) , Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said India has definite information to to prove that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim is in Pakistan and assured the Lok Sabha that all efforts would be made to bring him back.
Making a statement , Singh said India would pressurise Pakistan in tracking him down.
"India has credible information of Dawood Ibrahim being in Pakistan. We will pursue and pressurise Pakistan in tracking Dawood. India will leave no stone unturned to bring him back." ," he said.
"Pakistan was given all relevant documents on Dawood Ibrahim but they have failed to start process to locate him," Singh added.
The Home Minister made the statement following opposition pressure after a controversy arose when Minister of State for Home Affairs, Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary told the Lok Sabha on May 5 that Indian intelligence agencies were unaware of Dawood Ibrahim's whereabouts. .
Replying to a written question of BJP MP Nityanand Rai, Chaudhary said, "The subject has not been located so far. Extradition process with regard to Dawood Ibrahim would be initiated once the subject is located."
His statement contradicts Home Minister Rajnath Singh's remarks in December 2014 when he said that action will be taken to bring Dawood back to India.
Dawood is listed as as Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the United States for his alleged links with al-Qaeda terror groups.
The Central Bureau of Investigation alleged that Dawood had conspired with ISI of Pakistan to carry out the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai in 1993 in which 257 people were killed. He fled Mmbai between 1992-93.
Chaudhary's statement was also contradicted by his colleague, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who said Dawood lived in Pakistan and the Centre would continue to pursue the cases against him very seriously.
The contradictions in statement prompted the opposition to criticise the government and put pressure on it for making a statement by the Home Minister himself.
