New York, Oct 6 (IBNS) Condemning the Dadri lynching of a Muslim man over a beef rumour, Union Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday urged the citizens of India to keep a check on their actions as it projects a futile image of the country in front of the world, disrupting the peace of the nation.

Speaking to NDTV in New York, Jaitley said, "India is a mature society, we have to rise above these kind of incidents because they certainly do not bring a good name as far as the country is concerned."

"They can amount to policy diversion in that context," a concerned Jaitly said, while adding, "It is the responsibility of every Indian in his action or in his comments to stay clear of unfortunate and condemnable incidents."

While the Prime Minister is yet to comment on the issue, Jaitley, a senior member of the incumbent government, chose to give a version breaking the silence.

Mohammad Akhlaq, a 52-year old Muslim man from Uttar Pradesh's Dadri, was killed by a mob on the suspicion that he was keeping beef in his house.

The mob, rumoured to be led by the local BJP leader, also thrashed the victim's son that left him critically injured.
