India summons Pak High Commissioner to protest Lakhvi's release
New Delhi, Mar 13(IBNS) India on Friday summoned Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit after Islamabad High Court ordered the release of Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, the man accused of plotting the 26/11 Mumbai attack.
India has lodged a strong protest with the Pakistan government taking up the matter at the highest level, reports said.
India has said it is "extremely upset" over the verdict and it is Pakistan's responsibility to take all legal measures to ensure that Lakhvi doesn't come out of jail.
India has been seeking Lakhvi since the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai that left 166 people killed and over 300 injured.
Earlier in the day, a Pakistani court declared 26/11Lakhvi's detention illegal and ordered that he should be released from jail.
The notifications which were issued by Islamabad's District Administration were termed as null and void by Justice Noorul Haq in the morning, Express News reported.
Earlier, Lakhvi was granted bail by an anti-terror court on December last year, but was rearrested.
His counsel had appealed against his detention in the High Court, which held it invalid.
The country’s Apex court had also over-ruled a recent high court verdict suspending Lakhvi’s detention after he was granted bail in December last year.
The Pakistan government had challenged the high court order in the Supreme Court, reports said.
