JNU scholar allegedly drugged and raped by student leader
New Delhi, Aug 22 (IBNS) : Jawaharlal Nehru University, the prestigious institution that often becomes the subject of political controversies, may now provide a fresh fodder to its critics to go more virulent with the allegation being levelled against a students' union leader for raping a fellow student inside his hostel room after spiking her drink, reports said.
Anmol Ratan, a former state president of the All India Students' Association (AISA), has been accused of rape by a first year doctorate student.
Ratan has been expelled by the union, which has said it stands by the complainant.
The woman has said in her complaint lodged with the police on Sunday that Ratan took her to his hostel room on the pretext of handing over a CD of the movie 'Sairat' which she had wanted to watch and then allegedly offered a spiked drink.
After the 28-year-old student blacked out, he allegedly raped her.
Later, Ratan also allegedly threatened her against telling it to anyone.
In the recent past, leaders of JNU's Left wing students' unions came in for confrontation with the BJP-led Government and the saffron organisations over the issue of patriotism.
A number of BJP leaders launched launched a fierce attack not only against the Left student leaders, but also against the students in general, alleging that they have turned the campus into a hub of immoral activities.
