Mamata visits North 24 Parganas to monitor flood situation
Kolkata, Aug 3 (IBNS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday visited the North 24 Parganas district to monitor the flood situation in the state.
She said the moment of 'crisis' should not be used for 'political purposes and individual gain'.
"This moment of crisis should not be used for political purposes and individual gain," Banerjee told reporters in Ashoknagar.
"The government is and will provide all the necessary relief to those affected by this natural calamity," she said.
Banerjee spent Sunday night in the state secretariat to monitor the flood situation in the state, being pounded by incessant rain following a deep depression of the Bay of Bengal.
The depression has been created in the aftermath of Cyclone Komen which has hit large parts of Bengal, Odisha and Manipur.
About 70 people, including 48 in West Bengal, have died so far.
Incessant rain has left large parts of 12 districts of West Bengal inundated. About two lakh people are staying in relief camps.
