Odisha hospital fire kills 19
Bhubaneswar, Oct 18 (IBNS): The fire, which broke out at a hospital in Odisha's Bhubaneswar city on Monday, left 19 people dead, reports said on Tuesday.
The incident left 100 others injured.
Patients were evacuated and shifted to other hospitals in the city.
Sources told The Times of India that the fire started around 7.30 pm in the dialysis ward on the second floor of the hospital.
Fire fighters later brought the firer under control.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said he has ordered Revenue Divisional commissioner to enquire in to the incident.
"Visited Capital hospital to oversee treatment of evacuated patients from fire in private hospital in Bhubaneswar; condole loss of lives," the Chief Minister tweeted.
"Ordered Revenue Divisional commissioner to enquire in to this very tragic incident 2/2," he said.
He also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the mishap.
"Spoke with PM @narendramodi, briefed about efforts towards treatment of injured. Senior Ministers, officials monitoring," Patnaik posted.
Meanwhile, Modi also mourned the loss of lives in the tragedy which hit the hospital.
"Deeply anguished by the loss of lives in the hospital fire in Odisha. The tragedy is mind-numbing. My thoughts are with bereaved families," Modi tweeted on Monday.
On Dec 9 in 2011, a massive fire broke out in the basement of AMRI hospital in south Kolkata's Dhakuria area and a part of the hospital building caught fire very soon.
Before the firefighters doused the blaze, at least 90 patients and attendants were killed due to asphyxiation.
