Team Modi kicks of cleanliness drive before its official launch
New Delhi, Sep 26 (IBNS): As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch his Swachh Bharat (clean India) mission on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhis birth anniversary on October 2; his council of ministers on Friday began their cleanliness drive in New Delhi sweeping the premises of government offices.
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad joined his staff to clean the corridors of Shastri Bhawan, the headquarters for several ministries.
Earlier, Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani picked up a broom to clean the premises of a government-run Kendriya Vidyalaya school as part of the cleanliness drive that ends on October 31, reports said.
According to sources, the railway ministry is also likely to launch its own campaign to keep train stations and platforms clean.
PM Modi on Tuesday said in Bangalore that he would use the broom and beg citizens for 100 days a year or two hours a week to clean India.
For the first time in the history, there will be no holiday for government employees on October 2 as they have been asked to report to work to take a pledge for the clean India movement.
