WB nun gangrape: Four suspects detained in Punjab
Chandigarh, Apr 1 (IBNS): Four suspects have been detained by the Ludhiana Police from the Punjab city of Ludhiana in connection with the gang-rape of an elderly nun in West Bengal last month which had triggered angry protests across the nation.
All the four people were identified as Bangaldeshi nationals.
"All four are Bangladeshis. Ludhiana police commissioner himself is looking into it," Dinkar Gupta, additional DGP (security), told Hindustan Times.
Earlier, two others were arrested in connection with the case.
The first suspect, identified as Sikander Sheikh alias Salim, was picked up in south Mumbai last month.
The West Bengal police had picked up another person near Kolkata.
The septuagenarian nun, the superior mother of a convent at Gangnapur in Ranaghat under Nadia district, was gang-raped after gang of miscreants broke into it and looted cash and valuables.
The incident evoked widespread indignation across the country and put West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's government in a spot with religious heads of the Christian community openly criticising the administration.
