Bangalore mass molestation: Virat bats for women safety, slams incident as disturbing
Mumbai, Jan 6 (IBNS): Popular cricketer and Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli has slammed the Bangalore molestation incident as 'really really disturbing'.
In a video message posted on Twitter, the sporting icon said, "Guys what happened in Bangalore is really really disturbing. To see something like that happen to those girls and for people to watch it and not do anything about it...I think is a cowardly act."
"Those people have no right to call themselves men," he added.
The dashing batsman, who's also the skipper of the IPL based team Royal Challengers Bangalore, further added, "i have only one question...If something like that happens and God forbid, to someone in your family, would you stand and watch or would you help? That's my only question."
"I think these things are allowed to happen," he said, adding, "And people stand there and they watch these things happen and they are fine with it, because, they think it's absolutely fine for something like that to happen to a girl, just because she is wearing short clothes."
"It's her life, it's her decision, it's her choice. For men to accept that it's an opportunity for us to do something like this and get away with it and people in power trying to defend it, is absolutely horrible," he said.
"I think as a society that fact that these things are in certain people's heads, acceptable to a certain degree...is disturbing and it's shocking."
"I'm ashamed to be a part of that society," the RCB skipper added.
"i think we need to change our thinking. We need to treat men and women in the same way. be respectful and treat women with some compassion."
"As I said, put yourself in that situation and think...what if we were the family members of those girls? How would we feel about it? Jai hind," he concluded.
Virat is the latest celebrity to join the others in slamming the incident.
Earlier, actor Akshay Kumar too addressed the issue by posting a video on Twitter.
