Confident he will do his best: 'Proud' Narayana Murthy on son-in-law Rishi Sunak's elevation as UK PM
Billionaire businessman Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy is "confident" that his son-in-law Rishi Sunak, an Indian-origin British politician, will "do his best" as the United Kingdom Prime Minister, a day after the latter won the race to lead the country.
Murthy in his first reaction said as quoted by various media, "Congratulations to Rishi. We are proud of him and wish him success."
"We are confident he will do his best for the people of the United Kingdom," the Infosys co-founder said as reported by PTI.
The Prime Minister-elect is married to Narayana Murthy's daughter Akshata Murthy.
Sunak, 42, won the race after former Prime Minister Boris Johnson backed himself out of the contest.
After Johnson had stepped down as the Prime Minister earlier this year, Sunak was one of the contenders to succeed him but he had lost to Liz Truss.
The opportunity to become the Prime Minister came for the second time after Truss resigned last week following her economic policies that sent a shockwave to the investors and led her to lose support of her colleagues.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also congratulated Sunak, who will take oath of office on Oct 28.
Modi tweeted Monday, "Warmest congratulations @RishiSunak ! As you become UK PM, I look forward to working closely together on global issues, and implementing Roadmap 2030.
"Special Diwali wishes to the 'living bridge' of UK Indians, as we transform our historic ties into a modern partnership."
