Congress party is fully behind Manmohan Singh: Gandhi
New Delhi, Mar 12 (IBNS): A day after Mnamohan Singh was summoned by a court in a coal scam case, Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and other party leaders on Thursday showed their solidarity with the former Prime Minister and marched to his residence here.
Gandhi and other leaders met Singh at his residence.
Gandhi said the party is 'fully behind' the former Prime Minister.
"We offer our unstinted support & solidarity to Dr Manmohan Singh," Gandhi told reporters after meeting Singh.
"The Congress party is fully behind him," she said.
"We will fight with all legal means at our command and I am sure we will be vindicated," she said.
The Congress leaders started the march after gathering at the party headquarters in the national capital.
Congress leader Anand Sharma said the country was proud the way Singh worked during his tenure as the Prime Minister and no one could question Singh's 'honesty and integrity'.
Singh has been summoned as an accused along with five others in a case.
The court has also named Hindalco, its chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, and former coal secretary PC Parakh among the six accused.
They have all been summoned to appear in court on April 8.
The CBI has levelled some strong charges against the former PM including criminal conspiracy, corruption and breach of trust.
Singh said that that a fair trial will establish his "total innocence".
"I respect the judicial process of this country. I hope in any fair trial I will be able to establish my total innocence," the former PM told NDTV.
