New Delhi, Jan 20 (IBNS) : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Friday said an ordinance will be promulgated in two days to enable the conduct jallikattu.

"A draft ordinance is ready and has been forwarded to the Home ministry today morning. It has to get the nod of President with the recommendation of the Centre," he told reporters.

"On the basis of President's order, the Tamil Nadu Governor will promulgate an ordinance,"  Panneerselvam said.

The Chief Minister extended his stay on Thursday after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who  told Panneerselvam that the Jallikattu matter is sub-judice and he cannot use an ordinance or executive order to remove the ban.

Paneerselvam then consulted legal experts on making amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 so that law does not come the way of conducting Jallikattu.

In Chennai, thousands of people have been camping in the Marina beach to join a protest against the ban on Jallikattu, giving rise toP a Tamil Nationalist sentiment.

Top actors and others from the film industry have joined the protests with  composer and singer AR Rahman going for a fasting.

Most of the taxis and autorickshaws have gone off  Chennai's roads; while  private schools and colleges, markets and malls are closed.
