Najeeb Jung meets PM Modi a day after resignation
New Delhi, Dec 23 (IBNS) : Najeeb Jung, who resigned as Delhi's Lieutenant Governor on Thursday 18 months ahead of the end of his term, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, reports said.
Meanwhile, speaking to NDTV, Najeeb Jung claimed that he wanted to quit in 2014, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged him to carry on.
He said he had requested the prime minister to relieve him after three years as Delhi L-G.
On Friday morning, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had met Jung after the latter's resignation that surprised many.
Kejriwal, who had a tumultuous relationship with Jung over the primacy in governance, admitted that he too was surprised.
Jung, an ex-Jamia Milia Islamia vice-chancellor, had said he would love to return to his "first love"- academics.
Meanwhile, media reports say that the Centre is already searching for Jung's successors. .
Two of the names that media speculate over are former home secretaries, Anil Baijal and GK Pillai.
