No party gets clear mandate to rule Maharashtra: Shiv Sena mouthpiece
Mumbai, Oct 20 (IBNS): Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena on Monday said that the people of Maharashtra have given no party a clear mandate to rule, reports said.
An editorial published in party mouthpiece Saamna said: “We respect the mandate of the people, but are people satisfied with this verdict? The state is again facing uncertainty, anarchy…The Sena did expect a wave in its favour, but the wave didn't materialize as we expected. Four-five cornered contests worked in favour of the Congress-NCP. If not for the multi-cornered fight, the Congress-NCP would not have crossed the tally of 25 seats.”
The BJP fell short of a majority in Maharashtra by 22 seats. The saffron brigade won altogether 123 Assembly seats in Maharashtra. It was widely expected that BJP would go with former ally Shiv Sena which won 63 seats, reports said.
In Maharashtra, all previous alliance partners - BJP and Shiv Sena of NDA and Congress and NCP of UPA - fought elections individually after failing to forge pre-poll tie-up.
The editorial also said that the Shiv Sena always fought for a united Maharashtra. “One that isn’t subservient to Delhi…against powerful government forces both at the Centre and the state,” it said.
